Director of Sustainability Projects
Elk Packaging

Jeanne is the director of sustainability projects at Elk Packaging, and was formerly the director of supply chain at Alter Eco Foods, a multi-category Fair Trade and Organic food brand based in San Francisco, CA. She is also Co-Director and Board Member of the OSC2 Packaging Coalition, a group whose key initiative is to secure a functional and sustainable option for flexible overwrap and pouch applications.

In her role as Director of Supply Chain for Alter Eco, Jeanne’s main responsibilities included managing all purchasing and production in addition to serving as the resident subject matter expert on sustainability issues for the brand. During her tenure she developed, along with Elk Packaging, North America’s first laminated stand-up pouch (SUP) made from compostable materials. At OSC2, Jeanne directs the research and development efforts in the realm of compostable SUP structures for multiple ingredients and products.

Prior to joining Alter Eco in 2009, she was the Operations Manager at Zhena’s Gypsy Tea, an organic and fair trade tea brand based in Ojai, CA. It was there she cut her teeth in operations and started the quest for compostable materials for ZGT’s teabags and overwraps. Other stints include policy research for the Environmental League of Massachusetts as well as multiple research positions in native and invasive plant species research for the US Forest Service.

When not at work, Jeanne can be found at home in San Jose, California, with her husband Justin and their son Miles. Jeanne is an avid cyclist and has covered thousands of miles in cross country tours around the world.
